David Clay Goodnow

Journalist David Goodnow, Lincoln High School class of 1957, has a
face and voice familiar to television viewers around the world.
Beginning in 1982, he was one of the original international anchors
in the headline news division of CNN. In his 18 years in cable news
operations he covered an endless array of major news stories. During
Desert Storm he anchored live reports by on-scene correspondents,
including the Iraqi capitulation.
Reporting for group TV and radio stations, Goodnow covered presidential campaigns and inaugural events as well as other breaking news at the federal and state level. He also is recognized as an investigative reporter. One of his many reports, on railroad right-of-way safety, was honored by Broadcasting Magazine. Early in his career Goodnow was a newsman and announcer for television stations WAKO in Lawrenceville and WAOV in Vincennes. He worked in public relations and advertising for Security Bank & Trust Company in Vincennes and later became director of public relations and alumni affairs for Vincennes University. In the late 1960s he became the first manager of the university’s WVUT, the first public educational television station in Indiana. This enterprise helped lead to the formation of VU’s broadcast division. |

His
other broadcast positions include assignments as anchor and reporter
for television stations WTVW in Evansville and WTHI in Terre Haute.
Goodnow has lectured at many universities on all aspects of television journalism. He also coaches television anchors in writing and presentation. He remains in demand for speaking engagements, hosting TV specials, public relations consulting, and writing. His weekly column appears in many newspapers, including the Vincennes Sun-Commercial. Goodnow holds an honorary doctorate degree in broadcasting from Vincennes University and received the school’s faculty citation for his career accomplishments. He has been commended for his support of several health and service organizations. Among these are Easter Seals and the American Cancer Society. He helped with March of Dimes telethons and with public affairs duties for Storehouse Ministries, a Georgia food distribution organization. In his teens Goodnow joined the Vincennes chapter of the Order of DeMolay. This was the start of a life-long association with DeMolay, Freemasonry, and Scottish Rite. Over the years he has provided leadership to these organizations and helped create videotapes, program series, and other television productions related to Masonry. As a result he has received awards and honors at the national level and from several state Masonic organizations.
