DANIEL J. COMBS,
M.D.
Born in Bicknell, Dr. Daniel J. Combs has lived most of his life inVincennes where
he has been in practice since 1965 as a physician specializing in internal medicine.
He attended Clark grade and middle schools before graduating from Lincoln High
School with honors in 1954. While at Lincoln
he was sports editor of the Old Post Sentinel student newspaper and Lincoln Log yearbook
and was president of Lincoln Play Shop.
Combs attended Wabash College, Vincennes University, and IndianaUniversity, which
awarded him a bachelor's degree in anatomy and physiology in 1958. He earned his medical degree in 1961 from Indiana
University School of Medicine. Subsequently
he served an internship and an internal medicine residency at Marion County General
Hospital (now called Wishard Memorial Hospital) in Indianapolis. He also served a rheumatology fellowship at the
hospital.
He was away from Vincennes from 1966 to 1968 on duty with the U.S. Army Medical
Corps and was chief of medicine for the U.S. Army Hospital, Fort Polk, Louisiana. He received a commendation medal for meritorious
army service.
Combs has been president of the Good Samaritan Hospital medical staff and is a
member and board diplomat of numerous medical organizations. He was named physician
of the year in 1992 for the Indiana Medical Review Organization. He has served as medical director of Crestview
Convalescent Home in Vincennes.
Affiliated with athletic endeavors, Combs was team physician for Lincoln High
School athletic teams for 20 years and was a YMCA footballand basketball coach for many
years. He is a former board member of theVincennes
YMCA and a member of the building committee for the CollegeAvenue YMCA.
Combs was named Civitan Citizen of the Year in 1975 and received aVincennes
University alumni award in 1974. He is an
original board member of the Vincennes Educational Foundation.
Combs is married to Katherine Ann (Kay) Combs, and has three children, three
stepchildren, and 14 grandchildren.
