HORACE FONCANNON JR.
Foncannon graduated from Lincoln in 1947. He was a member of the Honor Society and V-Mens Club. He served as president of the Senior Hi-Y organization. He lettered in football three years and in basketball two years. Foncannon earned his bachelor's degree in business and his law degree from IU. He received his doctorate of jurisprudence degree from the IU School of Law in 1965. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1952 to 1954.
Foncannon began private law practice in Vincennes with his father in 1954. He served Knox County as justice of the peace and as deputy prosecuting attorney. He also served as deputy attorney general for the state of Indiana.
Foncannon was president of United Federal Savings Bank from 1971 to 1991, and continued as chairman of the board until July of this year. He served on the board of directors of United Federal (and its predecessors, Northside Federal Savings & Loan and Home Federal Savings and Loan) since 1959.
Foncannon's professional affiliations and community memberships are numerous and diverse. He was president of the Knox County Bar Association, director of the Indiana League of Savings and Loan, and a state chairman of a political action committee of savings institutions.
He is a life member of the Vincennes Elks for which he also served as exalted ruler, and the Harmony Society. He has been a member of the boards of directors of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, the Vincennes Historical and Antiquarian Society, the Vincennes Salvation Army, the Vincennes YMCA, the Vincennes Water Board and the Vincennes University Foundation.
He has been a member of the United Methodist Church for more than 53 years where he has been chairman of the board of trustees and served on the administrative board and various financial and legal committees.
Foncannon has been a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and an appeals agent for the local draft board. He is a member of Lincoln High School Boosters Club, the Lincoln High School Academic Society and the Lincoln High School Lettermen's Club.
In 1990, Foncannon was honored by VU with the Walter A. Davis Citation for outstanding community service and commitment. He has also been the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from United Federal Savings Bank. Foncannon and his wife, Nancy, have three children and three grandchildren.
