          A life-long resident of Vincennes, Dr. J. Scott Hendrix has been a member of the Hendrix family optometric practice Eyeworks since 1980.

          Hendrix attended Franklin Elementary School and Clark Middle School. He graduated from Lincoln High School with honors in 1974 and was vice-president of his senior class.  He earned a degree from Vincennes University and subsequently attended Indiana University, receiving abachelor's degree in 1978 and a doctor of optometry degree in 1980. 

          He has been an active member of the Vincennes Civitan Club since joining the organization in 1981 and has held every office in the club including the position of president on two occasions.  For each of these terms Civitan International presented him the distinguished president award.  Other honors include Civitan Citizen of the Year award, the local Honor Key, and the Midwest District Honor Key.  He served four terms on the Civitan Midwest District board of directors and wasgovernor of the district concluding in 1989.  He is a former board member of the Civitan District Foundation.  

          Hendrix has a long association with the Knox County Association of Retarded Citizens for which he has been a director since 1986.  He served as board president 1991-1994 and presently is a member of the KCARC executive committee, long-range planning committee, and chairman of the program services committee.  His efforts were instrumental in building the Vincennes Civitan Children's Center through a $200,000 grant from the Civitan International Foundation. 

          Active in the Vincennes Community School Corporation, Hendrix is a member of the Clark Academic Boosters, Lincoln High School Academic Society, and the Lincoln Choir Boosters.  He has served as president of the Lincoln/Clark Band Boosters organization and presently is treasurerof the group.  He is chairman of Band Boosters concession sales at Lincoln home football games.  He donates professional time to the annual Knox County first grade optometric screenings.  A participant in other youth activities, he has been a den and pack leader for Cub Scouts and assistant leader for Boy Scouts.

        Hendrix is a board member of the Vincennes Community Foundation and a member of the Vincennes University and Indiana University Alumni Associations.  He also is past president of the Knox County Humane Society.   

          Married to the former Carla J. Metz, Hendrix and his wife have two children.  A daughter, Megan, graduated from Lincoln in May 2001 and is a freshman at Butler University.  A son, Matthew, is a freshman at Lincoln.
