MELVIN MURRAY
Murray was born in Vincennes and graduated from Lincoln in 1942. He served in the Ninth Air Force in World War II. He was stationed in England, France Belgium and Germany. He was awarded two battle stars in Europe. While serving in the Air Force, he attended Louisiana State University.
After his discharge from the Army, he moved to Ohio and enrolled at Ohio State University where he received a bachelors degree in 1949 with a major in speech. He was hired as the manager of a radio station in Fostoria, Ohio, immediately upon graduation from the university.
He later became that stations president and the largest shareholder of the same radio corporation that soon owned two ratio stations. This same radio corporation later built and maintained two cable television companies in Ohio.
Murray is the author of two books, both on the subject of antique glassware, and is regarded as the foremost authority in the country on identification of Fostoria, Ohio, glassware.
Since his retirement, Murray has been active planning the formation of the Fostoria Glass Heritage Gallery. He serves as that museums curator.
