Standards Based Report Cards
The Vincennes Community School Corporation is pleased to announce that we are revising our elementary grading for all students in kindergarten through grade 5. It is our expectation that this new report card will provide you with more detailed information regarding your child’s progress towards grade level goals. For this school year, new standards-based report card is in an implementation pilot year. Essentially this means, the report card throughout the year could see modifications to ensure the grades truly reflect student learning.
Last school year during the fourth nine weeks, the standards based report card committee tested the grading methods individually to ensure that PowerTeacher would allow our version of Standard Based Report Cards meets the needs of our district. Our goal is to finalize the report card methods by the end of this school year. We ask two things as we work through this process. Please be patient with the teachers as they are working and learning to ensure the grades truly reflect student learning, and please ask questions if there are concerns with the grades.
Another piece of information that is vitally important to know is that you will not receive a paper form of the grade card as you have in the past. All grades are available daily in our PowerSchool system and the change to paperless report cards is to encourage parents to take a more active role monitoring grades.
Attached is a parent information guide that will provide you with preliminary information and responses to frequently asked questions regarding a standards-based reporting system. Additional information will be provided by the building principals and teachers at back-to-school nights, parent conferences and at other important times throughout the school year.
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or building principal if you have any questions regarding your child’s educational program.
