HISTORY, PURPOSES, AND
ACTIONS OF THE LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC SOCIETY
The Vincennes Lincoln High School Academic
Society was formed in 1989 to support and promote academics at
Lincoln High School. Specifically, the six-fold purpose
is
- To provide motivation for students in the
Vincennes schools to excel in their classwork.
- To provide recognition for honor students.
- To place academic achievement in a
position of prestige.
- To involve students, teachers, and
administrators.
- To provide community support for academic
endeavors, using all available resources of time,
materials, funding, and expertise.
- To support all academic teams at the
Vincennes schools.
Specific actions of the LHS Academic Society
include:
- Awarding of academic letters
and bars to students earning a grade point
average of 3.5 or higher.
- The installation of a display case
to recognize honor students.
- Supplementing the purchase of academic
letter jackets.
- Providing bumper stickers / window
decals which may be proudly displayed indicating
the occupant is the parent of an honor student at Lincoln
High School.
- Honoring outstanding graduates with the
Lincoln High School Distinguished Alumni Awards at
homecoming festivities.
- Providing GPA Improvement Incentives
to students (pencil, pen, discount coupons,
etc.).
- Administration of the Donald E. Miller Scholarship.
- Providing study materials and
meals for the Academic Teams.
- Financial support for the LHS chapter of
the National Honor Society.
- Sponsoring the spring Academic
Society Banquet to recognize all sophomores,
juniors, and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or
higher.
