VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRIDE OF THE GREEN SEASON

HELP!!!     HELP1!!!   The marching season will soon be underway and we need your help.  I have listed the different activities where help is needed and an explanation of these activities.  Your help is always appreciated.  Please let me know how you can help us during this year’s marching season.  My phone number is 886-5248 and my email address is dsalmond@vinu.edu.  Thanks so much!!!

Snack Wagon -   The band parents donate snacks for the band members after each contest.  Individual packaged cookies, chips, crackers, pudding with spoons, non melting candy, Twinkies, and Ding Dongs are all popular items.  These snacks are collected in the

band room and packed to be loaded on the buses for each contest.  Coolers with water and pop are iced down the night before or the day of the contest which are also loaded on the buses.  Someone is needed to pick up the water and pop and ice them down, package snacks, load snacks and drinks on the buses, and then set up and put away the snacks at each contest.

Patrons of Instrumental Music – This is a new fund raiser for the instrumental program.  We will be soliciting donations from local businesses, past, present band members and area  residents for this program.  We will need someone to keep a running record of the donations and send thank you notes.

Script Program – This is a fund raiser program for the band.  Band members will be selling script similar to gift certificates for different restaurants, services, and goods.  Someone will be needed to keep running record of sales and mail scripts to our customers.

Senior Video – Each senior is asked to submit 3-4 pictures for the senior video, created by Mr. Paul Blair, to be shown at the band awards program in November.  Someone is needed to keep track of the pictures, submit the pictures to Mr. Blair, and then return the pictures to the senior band members.

Spirit Activities for District, Regional, and State Competitions -   We decorate the band members’ lockers before these three competitions and make signs to be placed along the route to these competitions.  Help is needed to create and hang the signs for the lockers and the posters.  The locker decorations and posters are done during the week before each of the competitions.  The signs for the bus route are placed along the route the day of the competitions.  You will need to leave before the band leaves for these competitions.

Cell phone, ink, and laser jet recycling – We collect and earn cash for them.  Someone is needed to promote this program and collect the cartilages, phones, and mail them to CKA Associates.    There is no cost to mail these items.  The postage label is printed for you on line.  There is no cost to the band.

Concessions - The band boosters sell concessions at all home freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity football games.  Workers are needed for each game to grill hamburgers and hotdogs and man the concession stand.

Concession Clean Up – At the end of the football season, the concession stand is cleaned and all supplies are stored until next season.

Uniforms – Help is needed to help band and color guard members with their uniforms before each competition.  Color guard members often need extra help with hair and make-up.  Contact Jill Bailey (882-4031) if you can help.

Display Case Public Library – We will be displaying band awards, pictures, and memorabilia in the display case at the Washington Avenue entrance to the Knox County Public Library.  Help will be needed to organize the materials for the display case, create the display, and then take down the display.  The band will be highlighted during the month of October.

I hope to hear from you.  Thanks so much for your help and continued support of the Pride of the Green.  We love to see new faces and welcome your help.   I know this will be an exciting and memorable season!!!   Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your ideas and suggestions.
