The first semester is a course in black/white and color drawings using a variety of media. Students draft man-made subjects and still life using linear perspective and do contour line drawings of nature objects. Emphasis is placed on shading as well. Written work and tests consist of art history, vocabulary, and color theory. Semester two is a course in painting, design, sculpture and pottery, and using knowledge of drawing. Written work, tests and final include art history and vocabulary.

Drawing and Painting is an introduction to portrait and figure drawing and beginning painting on canvas. Students further advance skills with a variety of media and subjects. Concentration is on speed and technique as well as experimenting with media.

Students are encouraged to challenge their individual skills using a variety of media and develop more complex compositions. Students wanting to major in art at the college level should begin to develop a competitive portfolio.

Prerequisite: "C" average or better in Drawing/Painting II.
Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, push their individual skills, and become more experimental to develop a more rounded portfolio. They should research professional artists they relate to in order to further advance their own individual style.

This course introduces students to a variety of new materials. First semester students will complete a batik, a small painting, and a clay wall tile. Students will explore many subjects. Second semester ceramics, pen & ink, and printmaking may be covered. Art history and vocabulary will be studied.

Students will be placed on an individual learning program allowing them to develop skills and a style using media of their choice. They will experiment with new media such as etching, metals, etc. They are encouraged to explore one medium of special interest to them. Students will study and artist or time period of art. Art history and vocabulary will be studied.

Students will be advancing their skills and working with oil painting the first semester. They will be exposed to problem solving assignments such as sculptural environments, a form of printmaking, and will have projects of their choices. Art history and vocabulary will be studied.

This is an introductory course in art which explores the creative processes of humankind, its usage of specific traditional and contemporary media for communication, and the study of periods and styles in art as they relate to the human condition. Students must complete work based on observation and/or research for oral or written presentation or seminar participation as assigned by the instructor. Students have the option of taking this course for college credit from Vincennes University provided they meet the criteria established by Vincennes University.

The class is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. Students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year and college credit or placement may be earned if the portfolio merits so. The current portfolio offerings are 2-D design, 3-D design, and Drawing.
