This is a "hands-on" in addition to "eyes-on" class that helps students prepare for employment as productive members of society and achieve personal fulfillment. Content includes identifying occupational interest, aptitudes, employment opportunities, and techniques for getting a job.

This elective class explores the basic concepts of self-understanding and responsibility for behavior. The focus is on the importance of a positive self-image in developing mature interpersonal relations. Open class discussions are encouraged to share ideas and open the avenue to better communication. This class encourages learning about self and learning to get along better with others.

This elective course incorporates the Foundation of Consumer Education and is designed to improve the individual's ability to manage resources as a purchaser and consumer. Units of study include cost comparison shopping for clothing, food, credit benefits and pitfalls, and care of clothing.

Are you aware that your first impression may be the most important? This elective class will emphasize social and psychological effects of textiles and clothing in the selection, appearance, care and construction as related to today's fashions. Also stressed are the purchase of clothing, supplementing and maintaining a wardrobe, storage of clothing and legal requirements concerning consumer information.

This elective course will emphasize nutrition knowledge so the students can select healthful food to improve well being. The relationship of physical activity and good nutrition will be stressed to strengthen their nutrition knowledge. Additional units will include manners, food safety, and basic food preparation skills.

The elective class contains units on physical development (reproduction), pre-natal care, and development of the individual from conception to birth. Emphasis is then placed on the development of the infant through the first year. Meeting the needs of the child through the social, emotional, and intellectual growth stages is stressed. An additional area of study is career opportunities in the field of child development and child care.

This elective course presents the basic fundamentals of judging values when one buys, builds, or rents a home. Types of architecture, advantages and disadvantages of floor plan, and arrangements of work areas are studied. The following factors of home furnishing will be stressed: applying art elements and principles in selecting and arranging of home furnishings, appreciating and using color in the home, planning window treatments, floor coverings and wall treatments, learning about furniture styles and arrangements.

This elective family relations class considers the social changes that give the impact upon the quality of life. Units include preparing for marriage, getting and staying married, influences on marriage, money management, and the relationships of the family as it functions within the society and culture.

The purpose of this elective class is to become aware of fashions and changes in the fashion world. Students study every facet of clothing including a computer analysis of their individual figure. Training and skills necessary for a career in fashion merchandising will be stressed.

This elective course places a special emphasis on nutrition while building proficiency in food and meal management. Units in foreign and regional cookery, food preservation, making yeast bread products, and entertaining are included. Student will be exposed to information regarding global nutritional problems, futuristic trends, and opportunities in the food industry.

In this class the importance of both the mother's and the father's roles in becoming responsible, effective and caring parents is stressed. Instruction is provided that emphasizes raising healthy children, building positive parent-child relationships, and studying appropriate parenting procedures according to varying needs of children. This class includes facts, ideas and problems relevant for parents today.

Instruction concentrates on those fundamental homemaking skills necessary as preparation for the challenges that young people face in becoming independent. Course content includes management principles in planning, selecting and preparing foods. Emphasis is given to laundry methods, housekeeping practices, sewing for clothing care, consumer information, manners, and other related units.
