Prerequisite: "B-" average or better recommended in previous semester's English class
This is an introductory course in French conversation, grammar, and civilizations. Tapes, skits, magazines, and songs are used in addition to the text to reinforce the communicative skills.
Grades: 10-12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in French I or have special permission of the instructor.
In this course, emphasis is put on conversational skills through the use of tapes, skits, magazines, songs, etc. Advanced grammar is presented. French customs and civilization are studied in greater depth.
Grades: 11-12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in French II.
This is an advanced course in conversation, grammar, and composition. Short stories and novels are presented.
Grade: 12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in French III.
The purpose of the course is to offer those students who are interested in French an opportunity to explore French literature and to improve their grammatical and communicative skills.

This is a beginning language course designed to acquaint the student with the basic principles of spoken and written German. Special emphasis is placed on the first three German grammatical cases and on the present and present perfect tense. The study of recent German history and geography is also given a high priority.

This is an intermediate German course designed to finish the student's knowledge of German grammar. More emphasis is placed on the student's ability to write and read in the language. The study of culture, history, and geography is continued with more emphasis on advanced historical and economic concepts.
Grades: 10-12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in German II.
This is an upper level language course designed to develop a higher level of fluency in written German and an understanding of the German short story. Special emphasis is placed on reading and understanding short literary works. In addition to writing and translating, the students will also study geography, culture, and history of the German people. This course is not as grammar intensive as German I and II.

This course provides an introduction to the basic skills of written and spoken Spanish. Special emphasis is given to the study of the culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Tapes and songs are used in addition to the text.
Grades: 10-12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in Spanish I
This intermediate Spanish course focuses on advanced grammar, reading, and conversational skills. The study of customs and civilization is also continued.
Grades: 11-12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in Spanish II
This is a more advanced course in Spanish grammar, composition, and conversation. Selected short stories, plays, and novels are presented.
Grades: 12 (Full Year)
Prerequisite: "C" average or better in Spanish III
Students enrolled in the class are given an opportunity to improve their communicative skills. Special emphasis is placed on advanced reading and Spanish civilization. Mini-courses are incorporated in order to expand the students' vocabulary on special topics.
Grades: 10 1/2 - 12 (1 Semester or Full Year)
Prerequisite: Written permission from foreign language instructor and completion of at least three semesters of a foreign language.
Foreign Language Cadets teach twice a week in the elementary schools. Three days a week the students are in class at LHS at which time they prepare materials and lesson plans for their elementary class. This is a one hour elective class. Preference will be given to those students who are enrolled in either third or fourth year foreign language class.
