VCSC Mission Statement
The Vincennes Community School District and the greater Vincennes community are committed to high expectations and high standards. We proactively work together to provide skills, knowledge, and resources thus ensuring a fully supportive environment for excellence in education for all stakeholders.
Our mission at Riley is to identify and meet the educational needs of all students, enabling them to reach their potential. We employ a variety of proven strategies that meet state standards and federal guidelines. We understand the value of supportive families and encourage our parents to become partners in their children’s education. We strive to provide a safe, caring learning environment that encourages learning and character development.
Riley Elementary School is one of four public elementary schools in Vincennes Community School Corporation. Our enrollment has varied over the past few years from a low
of 150 to a high of 180. We currently have 180 students enrolled. Our student population is over 95% white.
The staff of Riley consists of 9 regular ed classrooms and one moderate/severe classroom. All MIMH and LD students are served by one resource teacher. Since Riley is
the only school in Vincennes that is all on one level, all physically handicapped students are bussed in Knox County to Riley. Our Title 1 staff consists of a Reading Specialist, Academic Specialist and two para-professionals.
Our support staff includes a full-time secretary, a full time social worker and nurse, a media aide,, and five classroom or special ed. aides. We have
two custodians and two food service personnel. A physical therapist and occupational therapist each spend one day per week at Riley; while our speech therapist is at Riley
two days a week
Extra curricular activities include Junior Great Books, Spell Bowl, Choir, Student Council and Challenge Research, which concludes at the end of the year with a city-wide Challenge Research Fair.
We also have community involvement in programs such as D.A.R.E., Professor Popcorn, Vincennes University Initial Experiences students, visiting artists and authors, and KidsHope USA.
We have a very active PTO organization. Our PTO provides many extras for our students, including field trips and visiting guests.
Visitors are always welcome in our building and should report to the front office upon arrival.
