SchoolCity Democracy Project co-chairperson (1999-2000) (Special note: this project was in conjunction with the Spring, 2000 installment of Balloteers: Voting in the 21st Century. One of the high points of our SchoolCity participation was that one of my students, T.J. Lancaster, traveled to Los Angeles, CA, to participate in YouthVote 2000 on the campus of UCLA. One of his duties while at the conference was to participate in a press conference interviewing Senator John McCain of Arizona, who was a contender for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination.)
Online Civil Rights Forum through TAPPED IN (my students interacted with students from Thurgood Marshall High School, San Francisco, CA., as well as students from the Loysville, PA Youth Development Center). (The project was featured in a story in Converge magazine.)
Discovery Channel Modern Presidency project, 1998
Students in my classes developed Power Point presentations or web pages regarding 20th Century US Presidents. See the project page for more information.
In addition, Tish Raff, subject area mentor for the Discovery Channel, and I held several "After School Online" sessions in TAPPED IN regarding this project and utilizing cable television and online resources in the classroom. See the information page for more information.

Band of Brothers Project: Students in my three US History classes (Spring, 2002) were involved in a project involving the mini-series Band of Brothers, which aired on Home Box Office during Fall, 2001. Students were required to view at least one episode of the mini-series and develop a Power Point presentation dealing with that episode as well as the battle/operation detailed in the episode.
In September, 2001, a special Social Studies forum session was held in TAPPED IN regarding Band of Brothers.

Civil War Project: Students in my two Introduction to Social Studies classes (Fall, 2002), utilized the Ken Burns Civil War series to create Power Point projects dealing with one aspect of the war.
In September 2002, a special TAPPED IN Social Studies forum was held featuring filmmaker Ken Burns, who discussed the series.

Most Important Civil Liberty Project: Students in my five US Government classes were required to create a persuasive presentation proving that the Bill of Rights Amendment they selected deserved the honor of "Most Important Civil Liberty". "Ken Burns America" Project: Students in my single US History class viewed either a segment or an entire film from the "Ken Burns America" or "Ken Burns American Lives" series, including "Horatio's Drive", "Baseball", "Unforgivable Blackness", "Statue of Liberty", "Brooklyn Bridge", "Not For Ourselves Alone", "Mark Twain", and "The Congress", and created a presentation in which they were required to describe the film as well as US and World History events from the time period described in the film. 2008 Presidential Election Resource Page: During Fall, 2008, students in my four US Government classes followed the campaign and completed lessons related to the PBS curriculum on the campaign. To see the related webpage, click here.
"The War" Project: During the 2007-2008 and 20088-2009 school years, my US History students completed projects using the Ken Burns film, "The War". To see the related project page, click here.
The September 11th Education Program: In September, 2009, I was one of six pilot teachers nationwide who used this curriculum. Several media sources used our school and student interaction as the basis for news stories. They included US News, City University of New York, Indianapolis radio station WIBC, District Administration, and the Washington Post.
