Here is one of the activities
you'll see happening behind the Interim door this week.
Patterning Activites
We use the Mathematics
Their Way Program Snap & Clap Cards to start learning how to
recognize
and follow patterns. The cards tell us how many times to snap
and clap. We do it over and over again to get the feel
and idea of what a pattern is. We keep doing a pattern until we are
able to predict what to do next without looking
at the card.
|
The next step is to look at the snap
clap pattern, turn it into a letter pattern, and make
a letter pattern card for it. |
|
We use the letter
pattern card we made with pattern blocks to make
a block pattern and repeat it four times. |
Now we use the pattern
block stamps to make a card that shows
our block pattern one time.
|
The final level
of understanding patterning is then to be able to create
your own pattern and repeat it four times. |
As a review
and extra practice on patterning a few days later we match
up the letter pattern cards we made to the block pattern cards we made
and
then use them to copy the pattern and repeat it four times.
