Primary Building

In 1975 the Vincennes Community School Corporation purchased the Sacred Heart Catholic School which was across the street from Tecumseh School and it became the primary building.  The building was built in 1961 and was in very good condition.  At the same time Harrison School which was on Second Street on the campus of Vincennes University was closed and all the students from that school were moved to Tecumseh School.  The name of the school was changed at that time to Tecumseh-Harrison Elementary School.

As we enter the primary building you will note that the halls are decorated as a living environment.  The hall theme changes throughout the school year the environment will change in kind.  The hall is also filled with the art work of artists who have visited our school over the years.

In this building you will find our Title 1 Reading Lab.  The room is  used for our kindergarten and first grade Literacy Groups Reading Program,  Reading Recovery Program, and intermediate writing worshop.

Our first grade classrooms  programs include  Saxon Math , 4 Blocks  and Accelerated Reader.

Students work in small groups using cooperative learning activities part of the day.  The teacher works with a small group of children to provide more individual attention.  Students rotate through the centers throughout the day

Our teachers work very closely together to share learning centers and teaching ideas.  All of our classrooms have rocking chairs, rug areas, plants,  and reading structures. Our rooms are bright and have exciting environments.

As we turn to go down the second hallway we have our kindergarten wing. We have three kindergarten classrooms. Our program is both social and academic and includes the use of Building Blocks, Saxon Phonics, Saxon Math, and Accelerated Reader programs.

Kindergarten in the 21st century is different from those of just a generation ago.  Children are taught to Read, Write, Compute as well as to cut paste, skip, and share.  They will have time to learn alone and come together in learning centers and during rug time for group activities.

The playground across the street takes up the whole block and  has a creative playground, basketball courts, soccer area, tennis court, and an outdoor education area.  We have two other playgrounds on our campus as well.
