Vincennes Community School Corporation is one of few school corporations fortunate enough to have a full-time school nurse in each of its school buildings. Your school nurse is part of a team of educational specialists who strive to provide health and wellness education to your student at his/her grade level. The nurses schedule and direct hearing, vision, and dental screening exams; provide first aid for injuries occurring during school hours; and care for your student when he/she becomes ill at school. The school nursing staff renders care to those students who require medical procedures for specific illnesses, such as breathing treatments, diabetic procedures, allergic reaction prevention measures, and many other physician prescribed procedures. To better serve your student’s educational opportunity, the nurses also maintain and deliver physician prescribed medication.
New Immunization Requirements for 2013-2014 School Year
The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) has recently revised the immunization requirements for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. Please note that two varicella vaccines (chicken pox) will be required for all students for the 2013-2014 school year, which will be a change for students in grades 3, 4 and 5. Hepatitis A vaccines for kindergarten students and the MCV4 booster for seniors will be recommended, but not required until the 2014-2015 school year.
