WLW

World Language Week (WLW) is here, and it's time to celebrate.

The week is all about recognizing the hard work of our world language students and promoting language learning.

WLW has been a tradition at Lincoln High School (LHS) and Clark Middle School (CMS) for many years.

World Language Chair Bailey Hacker-Powell shared, “This has been a tradition since the early 2000s at least, before I was even in school here. We are honored to continue it and try to add new events every few years.”

The week began with students decorating doors and labeling items around the school in different languages, bringing excitement to the halls.

The fun doesn't stop there though as there are several fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

On Monday, students participate in "Spread the Word," where French and Spanish students teach a few basic phrases to others. Participants earn points, and learners get candy as a reward.

From Monday to Wednesday during enrichment periods, the school hosts its 8th annual soccer tournament. Teams representing Spain, Mexico, France, and the United Nations compete for fun, building school spirit.

On Thursday, students take part in a class exchange, where they get to learn a lesson from another language class—usually the opposite language.

The evening will also feature the annual World Language Week dinner, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln High School.

French and Spanish students prepare dishes from the language or culture they are studying, either on their own or with a partner.

This dinner offers a chance to experience the cultures students are learning about through food.

After the dinner, students can enjoy a talent show in Ader Auditorium, showcasing performances from students of different language backgrounds.

Students spent Monday morning practicing for the WLW talent show.

The week wraps up on Friday with a trivia tournament in Ader Auditorium.

The game, similar to Jeopardy!, tests knowledge of French-speaking, Spanish-speaking, and German-speaking countries.
