Bulldog Breakfast Club

While most of Vigo Elementary is just starting to wake up, a group of Bulldogs is already hard at work.

Each morning, 12 students arrive for the Bulldog Breakfast Club with their school breakfast and a ready-to-learn mindset.

The morning tutoring program focuses on English Language Arts and Math, helping students strengthen key skills, build confidence, and prepare for the next grade level and spring testing—all in a supportive, low-stress setting.

The idea behind the Bulldog Breakfast Club was simple: turn early arrival time into an opportunity.

“Most of these students are already here at 7:30 a.m.,” said program leader and Vigo Dean of Students Andrew Jennings.

“This gives them a productive way to start the day while building confidence, routines, and habits that support classroom learning and spring testing.”

Each week follows a clear and motivating routine.

Mondays begin with a short pre-test to gauge where students are starting.

From Tuesday through Thursday, students focus on targeted instruction and skill-building practice.

Fridays wrap up the week with a post-test, allowing students to see their growth and celebrate progress.

And yes—there’s a fun incentive, too.

Thanks to Fossmeyer’s, students enjoy doughnuts on Fridays as a reward for a week of effort and commitment.

The positive impact of the program is already showing.

“We’ve seen improved attendance on Breakfast Club days, increased student confidence, and stronger effort during core instruction,” Jennings said.

Right now, student participation is by invitation only, based on academic need, attendance, and teacher recommendations.

Jennings hopes to grow the program soon so even more students can take part and start their mornings strong.
