LALC Fire Prevention

There was plenty of excitement at Little Alice Learning Center on Tuesday morning when firefighters stopped by for a special visit.

Thankfully, it wasn’t because of an emergency—it was all part of Fire Prevention Week.

The morning began with a fire drill, giving students the chance to practice what to do if an alarm sounds.

They moved quickly and quietly outside, showing just how well they’ve learned their safety routines.

Once everyone returned inside, firefighters joined the classes for some hands-on learning.

Captain Randy Jones with the Vincennes Township Fire Department talked with students about the importance of smoke detectors and having a family plan in case of a fire at home.

Firefighter Nathaniel Kates from the Vincennes Township Fire Department showed students his full set of gear, explaining how each piece helps keep firefighters safe while they rescue others.

He reminded students that even though firefighters might look a little scary in their equipment, they’re friendly helpers there to protect them.

Outside, the excitement continued as students got the chance to climb aboard a fire truck, explore the equipment, and even try out the fire hose.

The visit ended with a surprise guest—Sparky the Fire Dog—who made an appearance in classrooms to the delight of students and staff.
