Lincoln’s Champions Together Club has over 60 members.
Champions Together is a collaborative partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Indiana, promoting servant leadership among student-athletes while transforming their lives and the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
It is a model program designed to engage schools through “Project Unify,” which is also endorsed by the National Federation of High Schools.
Lincoln’s Unified Basketball Night embodies the core values of Champions Together and Project Unify—inclusion, acceptance, and respect for all students.
“Of all the traditions at Lincoln High School, this is my favorite. It is one night that brings the entire community together,” said Kristina Altstadt, Champions Together Club sponsor and Unified coach.
“It is great to see the smiles on the faces of all our Unified athletes. It’s a wonderful night that gives everyone a chance to be involved in some way,” Altstadt added.
“My favorite part of Unified Night is seeing the impact it has on our students and community.
I am proud of how we all come together to support these athletes and give them the opportunity to play basketball,” said senior Maleah Phegley, a cheerleader and co-leader of the Champions Together Club.
