Students learning about Career Fair.

Students at Lincoln High School are gearing up for the annual career fair, an event designed to connect them with local businesses and explore potential career paths.

To help them make the most of this opportunity, VCSC career coach Kaleena McCormick visited the school today to share valuable tips and advice.

McCormick emphasized the importance of making a good first impression, starting with appropriate attire.

While suits and ties are not required, she encouraged students to dress neatly, suggesting a nice shirt and jeans as suitable options.

This year's career fair is expected to host at least 120 area businesses, providing students with a diverse range of industries to explore.

In preparation, students researched some of the participating businesses and developed a plan for which booths they wanted to visit.

McCormick advised students to think ahead about the questions they want to ask business representatives and reminded them of professional etiquette—such as making eye contact and giving a firm handshake.

In addition to networking opportunities, students have the chance to win exciting prizes during the event.

Twenty students who are "dressed for success" will each win a $25 gift card.

Additionally, each student will receive eight "passports" that they can use to enter a grand prize drawing at different business booths.

Those who go above and beyond in engaging with businesses will have the opportunity to earn a gold star, which can be redeemed for a chance to win major prizes such as AirPods, an Apple Watch, an iPad, an Xbox, a laptop, gift card bundles for restaurants, gas gift cards, and more.

These prizes have been made possible through generous donations and sponsorships from local businesses.

The career fair is scheduled for Thursday, April 10, with students attending at designated times:

  • Freshman: 8:30 - 9:15 a.m.

  • Sophomores: 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.

  • Juniors: 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

  • Seniors: 10:15 - 11:25 a.m.
