Career Exploration

While underclassmen were busy filling in bubbles for the PSAT on Wednesday morning, Lincoln High School seniors were exploring something a little different—their futures!

Career Exploration Day gave seniors a chance to step out of the classroom and get a closer look at life after high school.

Those not retaking the SAT could choose their own adventure for the day: job shadow a professional, spend the day working in their work-based learning position, visit a college campus, or attend career discovery sessions right at LHS.

Inside the Early College Classroom, a lineup of local professionals shared what it’s really like to work in their fields. Sgt. Seth Rainey from the Indiana State Police kicked things off, followed by LHS counselors Sally Fulk and Teresa Mansfield. Students also heard from Jake Personett and Drew Hutchison of Vincennes Water Utilities, Andrew Hinz from State Farm Insurance, and Jamey Kenada with the Central Midwest Carpenters & Millwrights.

After lunch, sessions continued with Anna Bowens from Vincennes University’s Architectural Design program, Jessica Hess from Cornerstone Land Surveying and VU Land Surveying, Lydia Wright of Good Samaritan Hospital, Chad Deckard from German American Investments, and Justin Jones, Knox County Deputy Veterans Service Officer.

By the end of the day, seniors had a chance to ask questions, make connections, and start imagining where their own paths might lead.

Whether it was learning how to build, design, serve, protect, or invest, Career Exploration Day helped bring those possibilities to life—one conversation at a time.
