Learning about Careers

Students at Riley Elementary welcomed two professionals into their classroom on Monday to learn about different career paths and the importance of education.

Occupational Therapist Tara Cardinal and VU Women's Basketball Coach Ingrida Hartsfield met with 4th and 5th graders, sharing insights into their careers and experiences.

Cardinal discussed her daily work and the education required to become an occupational therapist.

She explained how her field helps individuals improve their ability to perform everyday tasks and demonstrated some of the equipment she uses.

Students even got a hands-on experience testing their strength with specialized tools.

Hartsfield shared her journey to becoming a coach, emphasizing the dedication and hard work needed to succeed in athletics.

She also stressed the importance of academics, encouraging students to stay focused on their studies.

In addition to meeting Coach Hartsfield, students also had the exciting opportunity to interact with some of the VU Women’s Basketball Team players, learning firsthand about teamwork and perseverance.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions about her career, gaining valuable advice on setting and achieving their own goals.
