Students at Franklin Elementary had an exciting day as they cashed in their hard-earned Benjamin Bucks for a shopping spree filled with fun and prizes.
The event, a highlight for many students, allowed them to spend the classroom currency they have been earning through good behavior, helping in the classroom, and demonstrating responsibility.
The student-run marketplace featured a variety of items, from slithery toy snakes and colorful journals to stylish bracelets, headbands, and an assortment of candy, Capri Suns, and stuffed animals.
The shopping experience gave students a well-deserved reward while reinforcing valuable life skills
In Mrs. Kirchoff’s fourth-grade class, the Benjamin Bucks system goes beyond just earning and spending—it serves as a hands-on lesson in financial literacy.
Students keep a check register to track their earnings, expenses, and remaining balance, mirroring real-world money management.
They also experience an element of banking by earning interest on their savings, determined by rolling dice to see how much they’ll receive.
Students get to visit the store at least once every nine weeks.
