VCSC School Board

The Vincennes Community School Corporation (VCSC) Board of School Trustees held its regular meeting on May 11, 2026.

VCSC Highlight

VCSC Bulldog Breakfast

Vigo Elementary Principal Jill Staggs highlighted the school’s “Breakfast Club” program, a structured morning initiative designed to help students begin the school day socially, emotionally, and academically prepared.

Led by Dean of Students Mr. Jennings, the program creates a calm environment where students can build relationships, receive additional academic support, and participate in hands-on learning activities before entering the classroom. Staff shared that the program focuses on helping students feel connected, supported, and ready to learn each morning.

VCSC Employee of the Month

Clark Middle School recognized school counselor Jennifer Vickers as an Employee of the Month for her leadership in supporting students’ academic, emotional, and mental health needs.

Personnel Updates

Retirement

Vigo Elementary Principal Jill Staggs announced her retirement following a career spanning more than 26 years in education.

After serving in both teaching and administrative roles at White River Valley Schools, Staggs joined VCSC during the 2023-2024 school year as a fourth-grade teacher at Tecumseh-Harrison Elementary before later becoming principal at Vigo Elementary. Administrators thanked her for her leadership, experience, and dedication to students and staff.

Resignations

The Board reviewed several staff resignations from across the corporation, including teachers, instructional assistants, and support staff at Vigo Elementary, Clark Middle School, Washington Learning Academy, Franklin Elementary, Lincoln High School, and KCSEC.

Recommendations

The Board reviewed personnel recommendations for the upcoming school year and summer programs, including classroom teachers, summer school staff, instructional assistants, and coaching positions.

Among the recommendations was Macy Knight for an English Language Arts teaching position at Clark Middle School. Administrators highlighted her strong performance during student teaching and her involvement within the school community.

Student Recognitions

Students earning top scores in the Challenge Research Fair and students achieving perfect IREAD scores were recognized.

The students will also be honored during their schools’ end-of-year award programs for their accomplishments.

Policy and Handbook Updates

The Board reviewed several proposed policy and handbook updates for the 2026-2027 school year.

One proposed policy revision would transition the corporation from EpiPens to nasal epinephrine treatment, known as “neffy.” Additional handbook updates across elementary schools, Clark Middle School, Lincoln High School, and Washington Learning Academy included revised cellphone and wireless device policies, Chromebook expectations, transportation procedures, discipline updates, and other changes aligned with new Indiana legislation.

Teacher Growth Plan

Administrators presented updates to the Teacher Growth Plan for the 2026-2027 school year.

The revisions included updates to evaluation language, professionalism expectations, classroom observation tools, and instructional practices designed to support teacher growth and consistency across the corporation.

Summer Programs and Student Support

Several summer programs were presented for approval, including functional skills summer school services through KCSEC.

The corporation also reviewed summer staffing recommendations for programs such as Summer IREAD support, Jump Start, functional skills programming, and credit recovery opportunities.

Wellness Policy

The Board reviewed the corporation’s Wellness Policy following a review by the School Health Advisory Board.

Officials noted the policy remains compliant with state and federal guidelines while continuing to support student health, nutrition, physical activity, and overall wellness throughout the corporation.

Curricular Material Fees

The Board reviewed proposed curricular material and consumable fees for middle and high school courses beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Administrators explained the fees would help offset costs associated with course materials and programming, as Indiana does not reimburse schools for curricular materials despite providing free textbooks.

Technology Services Agreement

The Board reviewed a proposed multi-year agreement with the AME Group for continued technology support services.

The agreement includes on-site IT support, network maintenance, preventative maintenance, and business continuity data services for the corporation.

The next VCSC Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in the Administration Building.
