VCSC School Board

The Vincennes Community School Corporation (VCSC) Board of School Trustees held its regular meeting on June 8, 2026.

Personnel Updates

Resignations

The Board reviewed several staff resignations from across the corporation, including teachers, coaches, and support staff at Lincoln High School and Clark Middle School. VCSC expressed appreciation for the service and contributions of those departing employees.

Recommendations

The Board reviewed several personnel recommendations for the 2026-2027 school year.

Among the recommendations was Charli Schultz for a second-grade teaching position at Franklin Elementary School. Schultz, a South Knox High School and Vincennes University graduate, previously served as a paraprofessional at Franklin and co-sponsored the school's Challenge Research program. Administrators highlighted her strong relationships with students and her commitment to the Franklin school community as she begins her teaching career.

The Board also reviewed the recommendation of Luke Scherer as a social studies teacher at Clark Middle School. A recent Hanover College graduate, Scherer gained experience teaching middle and high school social studies during his preparation program and was recognized as an Outstanding Future Educator by the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Transfers

The Board reviewed several staff transfers across the corporation for the upcoming school year.

Among the transfers was Bryce Crane, who was recommended to become the next principal of Vigo Elementary School. Crane has served as assistant principal at Lincoln High School for the past four and a half years and will succeed retiring principal Jill Staggs. Administrators highlighted Crane's relationship-driven leadership style, commitment to student success, and experience building positive connections with students, staff, and families.

Additional transfers included classroom and support staff moving into new roles at Vigo Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Tecumseh-Harrison Elementary, Riley Elementary, and Washington Learning Academy.

Donations

The Board accepted a $550 donation from Kirk and Becky Bouchie to support Clark Middle School Baseball.

Decision Items

Policy Update

The Board conducted a second reading of proposed changes to Policy 5330 regarding medication administration. The revision would transition VCSC from using traditional EpiPens to "neffy," a nasal epinephrine treatment used to respond to severe allergic reactions. The change aligns the corporation's medication policy with updated treatment options available for schools.

Public School Transfer (HB 1381)

The Board reviewed and considered annual enrollment capacity figures required under Indiana House Bill 1381. The law requires school corporations to publicly identify the number of students they are willing to accept through Indiana's public school transfer process.

Administrators noted that VCSC welcomes school choice opportunities and will continue accepting transfer students when capacity allows. The corporation established enrollment capacities for each school building while also noting that attendance, discipline, and class size expectations remain factors for Limited Choice and Out-of-District students. Students who do not meet those expectations may be returned to their home district as permitted by policy.

The next VCSC Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 13, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in the Administration Building.
