Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Indiana law requires all public schools to implement policies regarding student wireless communication devices during the school day.

In accordance with Indiana Code 20-26-5-40.7, the Vincennes Community School Corporation has updated its expectations for personal electronic devices to support focused, distraction-free learning.

As we get ready for another great school year, we'd like to remind families and students about our expectations for riding bicycles and e-bicycles to school.

If your student chooses to ride to school, please remember:
🚴 Riders are expected to obey all traffic laws and practice safe riding habits on their way to and from school.
🚴 Bicycles and e-bicycles must be parked in the school's designated bike rack area, which is located behind the school near the bus parking lot..
🚴 For the safety of everyone, students will wait until traffic has cleared and follow staff directions before leaving campus.

🚴 Students should not ride bicycles or e-bicycles on school sidewalks, especially during arrival and dismissal when pedestrian traffic is heavy. Students entering from the front of the building may use the sidewalks to reach the designated bike rack area; however, walking their bicycle is the safest and preferred option.

🌧️ Please note: Bicycles and e-bicycles must remain in the designated outdoor bike parking area throughout the school day. Clark Middle School cannot store bicycles or e-bicycles inside the building, including during rainy weather or other inclement conditions.

While we encourage students to use a secure lock, please be aware that Clark Middle School is not responsible for bicycles or e-bicycles that are lost, stolen, or damaged while on school property.

As we prepare for another great school year at Clark Middle School, we're sharing an important reminder about our food and drink expectations. These procedures help us maintain a clean, safe, and focused learning environment while minimizing disruptions to the school day.

A few key reminders:
🍎 Food and drinks should only be consumed in the cafeteria during breakfast or lunch unless a documented medical accommodation has been approved.
💧 Students may bring a clear plastic, sealed water bottle containing water only, which should be stored in their locker during the school day. Water bottles are not permitted in classrooms without an approved medical accommodation.
☕ Open beverages—including coffee, fountain drinks, smoothies, and other drinks purchased before school—are not permitted and will need to be discarded before entering the building.
🥪 Students are welcome to bring a lunch from home, but it should be packed in a lunch box or lunch bag. Restaurant-prepared meals, fast food, and food delivery services are not permitted.
🍽️ Free breakfast and lunch continue to be available for all VCSC students through our Sodexo food service program.

We've attached a Food & Drink Expectations FAQ that answers common questions about water bottles, breakfast, packed lunches, forgotten lunches, medical accommodations, and more: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rYjStb3dAo2pZuNESUscva4Kxv5oUQiC/view

CMS Food & Drinks
As we prepare to welcome students back for another exciting school year, we'd like to share an important reminder about our backpack and bag expectations. These procedures help create a safe, organized, and distraction-free learning environment while supporting smooth transitions throughout the school day.

Here's what families need to know:
• Clear backpacks, bags, totes, and other zipped containers should be transparent and stored in student lockers during the school day.
• Students should not carry backpacks, bags, totes, or other zippered containers to class. This includes zipped Trapper Keepers. If a zippered container is needed in the classroom (such as a pencil pouch or device sleeve), it must be completely clear.
• Students may carry their class materials—including books, binders, folders, notebooks, Chromebooks, and clear pencil pouches—by hand between classes.
• Food, drinks, water bottles, and lunchboxes should remain in lockers unless a documented medical exception has been approved.
• Students may bring a small clear bag to PE for items such as PE clothes, shoes, deodorant, and other personal hygiene items. PE lockers are available for secure storage during class.
• Athletic equipment and band instruments are the only exceptions to the classroom bag policy and should be stored in the gym, band room, or another designated area at the beginning of the school day.

We have put together a FAQ page that answers additional questions here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18y2qO-4EdBS1HECXtN2M_fMGyzdxkA5K/view

We know that new routines take time! During the first few weeks of school, our staff will focus on teaching expectations, answering questions, and helping students develop successful habits. If a student accidentally brings a non-clear zippered container to class, we'll provide a clear resealable bag while we help them learn the procedure.
