The VCSC is happy to bring, Jeff Veley, a bullying prevention specialist, to bring fun and laughter while providing resilience education and conflict resolution skills. He’s been honored with two international awards and recognized as a Peace Ambassador by the United Nations for his effectiveness in conflict resolution. A social misfit turned social skills educator, Jeff is able to connect with kids from all walks of life and provide the skills necessary to overcome life’s challenges. Jeff will be at each of the elementary schools, middle school, and high school on December 11th and 12th. On December 11th, from 5:15-6:15 in Ader Auditorium, families are invited to attend a 60-minute action-packed presentation that includes music and plenty of audience participation to help empower students to resolve social conflicts. On December 12th from 11-11:45 am, Parents are invited to a “Laugh and Learn Lunch” to learn how to help their students identify aggression, manage emotions, and resolve social conflicts. Snacks will be provided. We are excited to be able to include our entire school and family community in this opportunity to have a positive experience learning how to help our students strengthen conflict resolution skills and be resilient and confident in handling social problems that arise. See you there!

Great turnout last night for the annual Riley neighborhood Halloween parade. When I reflect back to the many meetings the Board and I held a few years back and we made the commitment to keep our neighborhood schools, it is reasons like what has transpired in October from the Tecumseh-Harrison Pumpkin Patch to Vigo and the BooGo, Riley and the Halloween Parade and we still have the annual Franklin Chili Supper to come. Always awesome to see the neighborhoods and community support our elementary schools.

One of the many things that I appreciate about our community is our greatest asset and this is our people. Time after time, when someone is in need, the community rallies. As an example of this, many within the community financially stepped up to offer their support so that three food trucks would show up at LHS on Friday and that our students would also have an additional offering from sack lunches. After our dishwasher fire on Tuesday, August 29 we did receive some considerable damage in the way of clean-up that was needed for our kitchen. Crews are working feverishly to get the kitchen back up and running. But thanks to the partnership that we already have in place with the Food Trucks through our JRTOC program and city councilman Brian Grove, they worked to get the resources in place so that every student could have something different for lunch this Friday in the way of a warm option and at no cost to the students. So, thank you to Councilman Grove and all who stepped up to offer support. Speaks volumes about our greatest asset and this being our people.
